Math Is A Drag!
What is pi? Why do people celebrate pi day on March 14th? In this talk, Kyne unveils the magical mystery of pi: what we know, how we know it, why it’s so cool, and the mysteries we still have left to solve. The story of pi is one of a millennia long relay run and a worldwide jigsaw puzzle with a mysterious number at its centre.
This talk requires some knowledge of geometry formulas (area and perimeter of a circle) and is aimed towards students grade 6 and up.

The Magic Of Math
Kyne unveils a hidden universe of mathematics, one that’s exciting, glamourous, and mind-bending. We won’t be learning about times tables, but we will be learning about infinity, math duels, secret spies, and the geometry of the universe! How many holes are in a straw? How do you draw an X in a square with one stroke without retracing the same line twice? Let’s do the math!
This talk will introduce some topics in university-level math courses, but is aimed towards high schools and general audiences.
What IS math? What are mathematicians really studying in the first place? We will explore the foundations of math through the lens of geometry, from Pythagoras to Einstein. We will see how Eratosthenes measured the globe with a stick and a shadow, how a geometry textbook became the second most published book next to the Bible, and how a Möbius strip only has one side.
This is a new talk aimed towards universities but is suitable for high school math classes and clubs.
